How To Drape A Saree SARI/ SAREE: A LENGTH OF CLOTH DRAPED AROUND THE BODY, TRADITIONALLY WORN BY INDIAN WOMEN. USUALLY 5.5 METRE IN LENGTH AND WORN OVER A SHORT/ LONG BLOUSE AND MATCHING LONG FLARED SKIRT. PETTICOAT: A LONG FLARED DRAW-STRING SKIRT, WORN UNDERNEATH A SARI TO GIVE IT SHAPE. MOST OF THE SARI IS TUCKED INTO THE WAISTBAND OF THE PETTICOAT WHILE DRAPING IT ROUND OVER IT. THE END OF THE SARI (CALLED THE PALLU) IS DRAPED OVER THE SHOULDER. BLOUSE/ CHOLI: A TOP WORN WITH THE SARI THAT USUALLY ENDS JUST ABOVE THE MID-RIFF AND HAS A VARIABLE LENGTH OF SLEEVE. IT IS MADE TO FIT CLOSELY TO THE BODY AND USUALLY FASTENS IN A ROW OF HOOKS ALONG THE FRONT. A CHOLI IS A MORE TRADITIONAL FORM OF THE SARI BLOUSE AND IS MORE, DEFINED IN FITTING THE BODY. IT USUALLY TIES AT THE BACK WITH A CRISS-CROSS LACING STRING OR AT THE FRONT AS A TIE IN THE MIDDLE. SAREE PALLU: THE FANCIEST/ MOST PATTERNED END OF THE SAREE, THAT IS USUALLY LEFT HANGING FROM THE SHOULDER. IT IS USUALLY A HALF METRE IN LENGTH SAREE FALL: A LENGTH OF MATCHING FABRIC (APPROX. 5 INCHES WIDE) SOWN ONTO THE BOTTOM-INSIDE EDGE OF A SAREE. THIS IS CALLED A 'FALL' AS IT HELPS THE SAREE TO FALL WELL WHEN DRAPED AROUND THE BODY. (ALL OUR SAREES COME PREPARED WITH A FALL) |
